The Fighter Novel – Kenna’s P.O.V. I pulled into the parking lot. There were only a few kids left, heading inside. I looked at my watch. First period was about to start. I got out and started heading to the door, when I heard a loud whistle. I turned around and saw a group of four very large guys sitting on the hood of a car. I seriously don’t have time for this thing. I continued to walk to the door when I felt someone approach me. “Hey baby… you new, here?” I kept walking, I didn’t even turn around. Then I felt someone grab my shoulder. Big mistake. I turned around and came face to face with one guy. Cute enough, but not interested. I grabbed his arm off of me and before he could say or do anything else, I twisted his arm back pulling it behind him and pushed him to his knees. I applied just enough pressure for it to hurt, where he couldn’t get out. A little more pressure and I would break his arm. “One, never cat call me. Two, never call me baby… that’s reserved for my man. And Three, never touch me.” I hissed out, “Understand?” He just nodded his head. “I can’t hear you.” I said, twisting his arm a little. “YES!” He growled out, with a clenched jaw. “Good boy.” I said, letting go of his arm.
I looked at the other three boys that were now standing. Two had smirks on their faces and the other one just stared at me with such intensity that I had chills. I turned and walked into the school. I went to the office and the receptionist gave me my school schedule, books and introduced me to my principal. I headed to my locker and dropped off all my things I needed for after lunch, before I headed to my first class, Math. Gag. I knocked on the door, the teacher came over, opening it. “You must be Ms. Jones? I’m Mr. Michaels.” “Yes sir, sorry I’m late.” “Why don’t you go take an empty seat, and we’ll get started.” I nodded and started heading to the back of the class. Everyone was staring at me, I was so uncomfortable. I sat down next to a guy, one that I recognized from the group of boys from outside. The one with the intense stare. When I looked up, everyone was staring and snapped their heads back to the front of the classroom. So weird.
The morning went on very slowly. My next class had all four of those boys in my class. The jerk outside that grabbed me, glared at me as I walked in. I gladly returned that glare with a slight smirk as I saw him favoring his other arm. No one sat next to them and no one talked to them. I’m not really sure why, they’re all very attractive but everyone seems to distance themselves. Random people would introduce themselves to me, so far everyone seems nice enough, but I stayed quiet and just talked if I was talked to.
Lunch rolled around and I grabbed a few things and sat down by myself. God I hate new schools. “Hello.” A very chirpy girl came and sat down. “Ummmm, Hi.” I responded. “My name is Olivia, you must be Kenna. Goodness girl, you are the talk of this school.” A cute guy and another girl also joined us, “I’m Scott,” extending his hand for me to shake. “And this is Lana.” “Hello, nice to meet you.” I responded back. “Girl, you are fine. No wonder the guys are talking about you.” “Gross.” I said, rolling my eyes. They all laughed at me. “So, how are you liking school? I hope you haven’t had any troubles?” Olivia asked. “No, everyone has been great… Well except for that prick over there with the black hoody. We had some words this morning before school started.” I motioned over to the group of four guys. “Oh my God, stay away from them,” Lana jumped in. “Those guys are terrifying and cause a lot of trouble.” “Yeah, no one talks to them.
Rumor has it, they’re associated with a local gang here in New York.” Olivia informed me. “What happened this morning with him?” Scott asked. I told them the story and they all stared at me in disbelief. “That guy you assaulted is Mike, he’s the most friendly out of that bunch, then you have Blake, Joe and Nick. Nick is the worst, he never smiles and is like super creepy… But Lord knows he’s alluring.” Scott moaned out. I turned my head to Scott. “Yes, darlin’, I swing that way.” Scott answered my next question. “You and these girls are the only one that knows that though.” I smiled at him, “What do they eat? They seem a little older?” Scott leaned in and smiled, “They eat small children, and probably charming girls.” He winked at me, making me smile again. “They’re all actually twenty, they skipped a lot over the last two year so they’re finishing up this year.
So far they only missed one day.” “Interesting-” I was about to ask a question when I was interrupted by an annoying screech. “You must be McKenna? Aren’t you just the prettiest. You are so lucky, I’m here to get you away from these rejects.” This overly annoying girl said. Everyone seemed to have quieted down, and was looking in our direction. Dear lord, get her away from me. “My name’s Laura. I never do this, but I’m extending an invitation to my group.” I looked at Olivia, “Is this chick serious?” Olivia looked down shyly and nodded her head. I looked back at this ‘Laura’, “I’ll pass.” Scott started laughing out loud. I turned back to my new friends and was again interrupted by Laura’s annoying voice. “Excuse me? I was being nice and you have the balls to tell me no? Who do you think you are?” “Someone that doesn’t want to affiliate myself with you, so please…. Leave!” I was trying to stay calm. “Listen here, bimbo. Do you have any idea who my dad is-” I stood up fast, knocking my chair backwards. Everyone had gone quiet and I saw the principal in the corner watching this unfold.
I got in Laura’s face, “No… You listen, bimbo. I don’t care who your daddy is, he could be the president of the United States for all frickin’ care and it still wouldn’t change the fact, I want nothing to do with you or your little posse. I like my new friends. They’re nice, I can tell they don’t treat people like dirt, plus they don’t stink like cheap perfume. So back up and leave before you look even more dumb.” She just stood there, staring blankly at me. Before she let out a scream and stormed out. “Go take a bath!” Scott yelled her way, he got up and gave me a big hug. “Girl, that was hot and coming from me, so that says a lot. You’re my new bestie.” Everyone was clapping and the principal had a slight smirk to his face, as he turned around and sat with the teachers. “You can let go of me, Scott.” “Nope” He said, walking me back to my seat with his arm wrapped around my waist. “I’ve never saw anyone talk back to her before.” Olivia chuckled. “The gang is looking this way.” Lana whispered. I looked over my shoulder and sure enough all four were looking this way. This Nick guy was burning holes in me. What is this guy’s deal?
