I Bit My Best Friend Until The System Spoiled Me Novel

I Bit My Best Friend Until The System Spoiled Me Novel – Chapter 1 I’ve struggled with an unusual urge to bite people for as long as I can remember. Luckily, my childhood best friend was always more than willing to offer himself whenever my urges became overwhelming. When we were kids, it was his wrists. As we grew older, it slowly shifted to his shoulders and neck. [Don’t you think he absolutely hates this?] One day, right after I finished getting my fix, a mechanical, robotic voice suddenly flickered to life inside my head. [Look at how tightly his brows are knit, how ragged his breathing is. He’s practically in tears from how grossed out he is.] I looked down. Sure enough, Ethan’s eyelashes were slightly damp.

His head was lowered, and his knuckles were clenched so tightly they had gone completely white from the strain of holding back. [He’s clearly uncomfortable from your gross spit, yet he still hasn’t pushed you away. The Male Lead is way too kind.] It turned out my childhood best friend was the Male Lead of a story—but I wasn’t the Female Lead. [If you don’t kick this biting habit of yours soon, just wait until the New Girl arrives. When she takes her place, the only thing left for you to chew on will be a cold pork chop..] And so, I began trying to break a bad habit that Ethan had enabled for over a decade. The next time the craving hit me hard, my lab partner kindly extended his arm toward me. “Don’t hold it in. You can use my arm.” I was just about to lower my head when I caught sight of my childhood best friend standing not far away, his face deathly pale. — When that mocking, mechanical voice first echoed in my mind, I had just lifted my head from Ethan’s shoulder. “Better?” His voice was terrifyingly raspy.

For a second, I didn’t even recognize it as Ethan’s. “Yeah.” I nodded slightly, which only made the voice in my head mock me even louder. [I’m talking to you. Did you even hear me, you brainless NPC?] [Don’t you think he absolutely hates this?] I frowned, grumbling back in my mind. Hate it? We’ve been doing this since we were toddlers, and Ethan has never once said he didn’t want to. Finding out that I could actually hear it, the system instantly grew energetic. [Duh! The Male Lead is incredibly gentle, kind-hearted, and soft-spoken. There are just some things he’s too polite to say out loud, but you’re a total blockhead who doesn’t know how to read the room.] [Look at how tightly his brows are knit, how ragged his breathing is. You’ve practically disgusted him to the point of tears.] I looked down. Ethan’s eyelashes really were beaded with a hint of moisture. With his head lowered, he quietly pulled his collar back up, covering the patch of reddened, faint teeth marks on his skin.

Only then did I notice that his knuckles were clenched so hard they were stark white from the strain. As if sensing my gaze, Ethan lifted his eyes to look at me. “What’s wrong? Was it not enough?” His Adam’s apple bobbed. His lashes were still damp at the edges, looking as though he were enduring something utterly unbearable. I stared at him in silence, my mind a chaotic mess while the system continued to chatter away. [He’s literally dying of disgust from your gross spit, yet he still hasn’t pushed you away. The Male Lead is seriously too kind.] [Look at what you did to the poor guy. Were you a pitbull in a past life? Who goes around gnawing on people like that?] I curled my fingers inward, a sting of hurt hitting me. I didn’t even bite hard… The system scoffed, entirely unimpressed. [The issue here isn’t how hard you bit. The issue is that you’re both adults now, yet you’re still randomly gnawing on people—and you’re doing it to the Male Lead, no less.] [You’re not the Female Lead.

You’re basically stealing someone else’s spot, you know that?] Seeing me snap out of reality into a daze, Ethan waved a hand in front of my face. “Chloe?” Pulling my thoughts back together, I forced a hollow laugh. “Thanks, Ethan. I feel a lot better now. I should head home.” He sat at the edge of the bed, staring at the blanket draped over his lap. After a few seconds of silence, he gave a slow nod. “Okay. I won’t walk you out then.” The system immediately chimed in to translate for him. [Yeah, you better get lost. He gets annoyed just looking at you for another second.] [He can’t even be bothered to show you to the door. He just wants you to roll out of his sight as fast as possible, and you can’t even take a hint.] This system really had a foul mouth. Avoiding Ethan’s gaze entirely, I stood up and started walking home. The entire way back, the system wouldn’t shut up. Thanks to its relentless blabbering, I finally understood the reality of my situation: I was living inside a high school romance novel. My childhood best friend, Ethan, was the Male Lead of this story.

As for the Female Lead, she was a transfer student who would be arriving out of nowhere very soon. The system took absolute delight in my misery. [Listen to me, NPC. You need to stay far away from the Male Lead.] [Just because he told you to come to him whenever your condition flared up doesn’t mean you were supposed to actually do it from kindergarten all the way to high school! Can’t you tell he was just too polite to reject you?] [If you don’t kick this biting habit of yours soon, just wait until the New Girl arrives. When she takes her place, you’ll have to find something else to cope.]
