Almost every week, I only have one or two things I want to say in this column. But damn, a lot dropped this week, so you’re all getting something above your quota, because it’s Friday and Mike and Dean have their backs on them.

We’ll start with Gamescom, since it’s taken up most of the week. There are many interesting titles, with my favorite being the charming Lies of P. The “biggest” announcement, arguably, was the revelation that Dead Island 2 was real and really out. I’m ambivalent about this — frankly, the game is funnier as a ghost than the original. But it’s also great to definitively tick the box on the legendary steam tool. Nor is it Gamescom as it is adjacent to Gamescom, but I enjoyed a peek at Harvestella, which might just be my new cozy game.

Meanwhile, Sony is raising the price of the PlayStation 5 in some markets — it doesn’t look like it’s hard enough to get hold of it yet, let alone all the brokers and resellers doing the same. I would argue that Sony wouldn’t do this unless it was in trouble, because the reverse reaction wouldn’t be worth it. Not me agree, but I see it as Sony threw himself on a straight sword, as it were. If anything, this news made me look up at Microsoft and Nintendo—both of whom have publicly stated that they’re not raising the prices of their consoles—and say, “. . . not yet.”

And now, a short pause…

Just to clear my conscience I’ll tell you all that, similar to Fire Emblem Warriors, there’s another game on my review board that I’ve spent way too long playing and forgot I should actually sit down and review: Two Point Campus . I promise this won’t be Thing. But at this point, it makes more sense to talk about it here than to provide the full review—especially since it’s hard for me to think of anything to say that doesn’t apply to Two-Point Hospital as well. By the way, it’s not diss. If I were to score the game, it would be a solid 3.5 out of 5. This is a decent sim game with a distinctive and goofy style.

One solid upgrade to the sequel is summer vacation. So much of Two-Point’s modus operandi is room setting like Tetris, but Campus gives users the opportunity to take the summer, when the students are out, to set matters to their heart’s content. College humor is pretty much the same as Hospital Humor — mostly harmless, but with a bit of satire behind it. Whether higher education is as scornful as the for-profit healthcare industry is, I leave to each player to decide — I don’t find it entertaining enough, but these things are subjective. This opinion may also be colored by the fact that the little B class pillbugs at my school are constantly glued to the points in the empty hallways because their paths are failing.

Back to your event

I was originally going to end the article with that mini review, but after this morning, I felt the need to comment on the now debunked story about Amazon bidding for Electronic Arts. The acquisition was supposed to be announced today, but now it’s practically a weekend and *cricket*. I’m not sure what that says about the current climate so this story sounds plausible—well, almost. I still put Embracer more likely than Amazon.

In personal news, I bought Saints Row and am currently playing it. I’m not sure if I’ll review it or not, but I’ll have to see if the negative (and sometimes positive) chatter I hear is justified or not. Also, I have too much history with this series to no play new title. If nothing else, I’ll just ramble on about it here in case I feel the need to vent my spleen a bit. I also want to remind everyone once again that the Wii U and 3DS eShop will soon cut access to eShop cards — meaning that after August 29, there will be no way to add money to your account. If nothing else, at least treat yourself to Bravely Default. It was an amazing game.
