Emma POV I am Emma Nelson 23-year-old Luna of the Crimson Pack. I am 5’8′ with long black hair. I have an hourglass shape, but I have never felt as pretty as my sister Mia is. My mate is Alpha Chase Nelson. We are from the same pack, and I have known him since we were teenagers. We found out we were fated mates on his eighteenth birthday. I was so happy he was my mate. We have been mated and marked for two years. He has always been good to me, and I love being the Luna of our pack. I have many friends and all the pack members are very kind to me. My sister Mia and I lost our parents as teenagers and Chase allowed her to move into the pack house when we mated. I am so lucky to have the wonderful mate I do. I know Chase is really wanting us to have a pup, but it hasn’t happened yet. We have been trying for a while and it feels like it isn’t going to ever happen. As wolves baring pups usually happens quickly when we are with our Moon Goddess given mate.
I feel bad that I am disappointing him. Recently I haven’t been feeling well and have been more fatigued. I have been experiencing pain at different times throughout the day. I didn’t want to alarm anyone so the only person I told was my best friend, Sarah. I am at her cottage when the pain hits me again. I don’t understand what’s happening to me this is happening more frequently. “I think you really need to go see the pack doctor; it seems to be getting worse.” I really don’t want Chase to worry, and I know she will tell him if I go to see her. If it keeps happening, I promise I will make an appointment. Sarah hugs me and I head out of her cottage and back toward the pack house. When I get to the house the pain is strong again and I decide that I am going to lay down until dinner time. One of the omegas Chrystal sees me struggling and helps me to the stop of the stairs. I thank her and dismiss her then walk toward our room. As I get closer to the room my pain seems to be worsening. I can hear noises coming from our room and I am horrified at what I am about to find. I open the door to find my husband deep inside my sister, Mia.
I am frozen they both look to the door and see me. I hear Chase tell Mia to leave and she smiles at me as she wraps the blanket around herself and closes the door. This can’t be happening to me; how could he do this. He starts to speak but I can’t even hear him I am in a fog. He yells at me and finally I am able to focus on his voice. “Emma look at me this is no big deal.” Excuse me what do you mean you are sleeping with my sister. “Watch how you talk to me mate I have been very patient with you, but you haven’t given me an heir and I need one.” Are you kidding me right now so that gives you the right to sleep with my sister, no way? “I can do anything I want I am the Alpha.” You are supposed to be my mate. She begins to speak to me like I am still her sister. I stand to excuse myself and say I don’t feel well. I can see that Chase isn’t happy but makes no move to stop me. “I’ll be up to check on you after dinner honey in our room” Chase says to me. I bow and walk out. He will I will never enter that room again as long as I live. He can keep sleeping with her in there until they both die. I go into the room a few doors away that I have been staying in. I lock the door because I don’t want him thinking he is coming in here. I go to take a shower. As I look in the mirror, I think about what I could have done differently and what if I was prettier. I immediately shake those thoughts away when I hear a familiar voice in my head. “I’m sorry I have been missing Emma I just couldn’t handle what our mate did” Ruby my wolf whines. I know Ruby I understand. I am hurt too but we need to stay strong and protect our friend. She agrees and tells me that Lucifer, Chase’s wolf, is angry but cannot control him his human. I feel bad because her mate is not in agreement but what Chase is doing will still affect his and Ruby’s bond.
I finish in the shower and put on a night gown. I get in bed and pray for sleep to take me. As I lay there, I hear the handle of the door begin to jiggle. I am so glad I locked it right now. He won’t want to draw attention I am in a different room so hopefully he will just go away. “Emma open the door now” I hear him say in a whisper yell. I am going to pretend that I am sleeping and hope he gives up. After a few minutes he appears to have left so I breathe a sigh of relief. I am just dozing off when the door handle turns, and I know he got in. “Dear I told you I was coming to check on you in our room.” “That meant it was your turn to be in our room tonight.” I can’t believe the words he is saying to me. I would rather not you can just use Mia, thanks anyway. I hear him growl and I know he didn’t like my answer. “I told you before Emma you are my mate and I still care for you I just need a little variety.” “We can still be happy you just won’t have to work as hard to please me.” “You will only sleep in here when I am using Mia otherwise, I expect you in our bed, Lucifer needs you and Ruby close.” I hate him with every fiber of my being. I will not leave but I will not continue to share a bed with you. “I don’t think you understand I am not asking you are mine so get up and come to bed so I can show you I still love you properly.” I feel the sickness in the pit of my stomach he is not going to let this go. I think about Sarah and take a deep breath. I get up and walk toward our room.
I see Mia standing at the door. “Not tonight Mia go to bed” he spits at her with authority, and I smile when her face falls. She doesn’t argue and leaves. “See Emma, I sent her away because tonight it’s you and me.” He pulls me into him, and it is everything I can do not to pull away. He begins to peck me, and I can feel the bond, but I can feel the betrayal more. I just let him do what he wants, and I try to go far away in my mind. He lays me down on the bed after taking off my night gown. He undresses and the sight of his body that once ignited everything in me is repulsive. After twenty minutes I get out and put on a sun dress. I have to speak to Sarah and make a plan for us both to leave. I can’t keep living this. I reach Sarah cottage and she is waiting on the porch. One of the she-wolves directs me to the Alpha’s office. When I come to the door I knock. I hear a deep male voice say enter. When I walk in an attractive man is seated behind the desk. Xander POV Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t get to say it when you first came in, I am the Beta. The Alpha my brother had an emergency to attend to, so he asked me to meet with the guests. My name is Xander Wolfe, and my brother is Xane. We ask for these meetings to find out the guest intentions and also to welcome you to our pack. I thought there was two of you Cassandra said. “There is my best friend wasn’t feeling well so I told her to stay in bed and I would meet with you, I’m sorry with Alpha.” Is she ok does she need to see the pack doctor? Sarah POV No, she doesn’t need the doctor we already know why she is sick.
“Care to elaborate on what that might be.” I am not sure that is my story to tell. I will tell you one thing because I believe you have the right to know. Before I tell you, I am going to preface it with this. Xander POV After she says about her dress, I think that this girl must be crazy she is talking in riddles. Then like a light bulb goes off in my brain the scent on the dress it was her friends. I need to see her now I say with finality. “I will take you to her, but I again am going to say she has been hurt so you need to be kind even if you are going to reject her. ” Reject her are you out of your mind I would never reject her. “You need to talk to her so she can tell you her story then I hope you feel the same.” What would have this girl thinking that I wouldn’t want my mate. I rise and she leads me out of the pack house toward the cottage they are staying in. The smell of strawberries is getting stronger. When she opens the door, she heads back toward what I assume is a bedroom. When she opens the door, I see the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I hear her begin to ask Sarah how the meeting went before I see her stiffen, I assume catching my scent. I say loud MATE and rush to her side. I hear her whisper the same but the fear in her eyes doesn’t sit well with me.
Emma POV I hear the cottage door open, and I assume Sarah is returning from her meeting. That was quick she has only been gone about twenty minutes. When she opens the door, I begin to ask how it went when the smell of apples and cinnamon invade my nose. It is the most delicious smell and I stiffen because this can’t be happening. I just broke the bond with Chase how can I have another mate already. I see the most gorgeous man come through door saying MATE. He sits at my bedside, and I whisper the same. He is never going to accept me after he finds out that I am pregnant, and my former mate is after me. I am never going to know what it is like to have a loving mate. I look at Sarah for what to do next. I am scared of the rejection but a part of me wonders if it is the best thing for me. What if he is like Chase, I can’t take another Alpha mate who thinks of me as a plaything. Before I can speak Sarah does “Emma this is Xander Wolfe the Beta of the Wildfire Pack.” I look at her a little confused. “Xane, who is the Alpha, had to attend to some business so he had sent Xander to meet with us.” Before I can speak again Xander does this time “Sarah can you leave us for a little while?” “Remember what I said Beta I will not hesitate to make good on my promise” she says as she closes the door. We sit for a few minutes just breathing in each other scent. I break the silence. I am sorry I wasn’t there this morning for our meeting I wasn’t feeling well.
He looks at me for an explanation and I bite the magazine and continue. I realize we are mates but what I am about to tell you may change your mind about accepting me. He goes to speak, and I raise my hand to halt him. I will completely understand if you do reject me, and I will find a different pack to accept me. A small growl comes from him before he cuts in “you will not be going anywhere.” I can tell by his eye color turning to black from its deep blue and the tone of his voice that his wolf is coming to the surface. “I apologize Fang and I have waited for you for a very long time so we can’t have you talking about leaving us. He places his arms around my waist and his head in the crook of my neck to calm himself. The tingles and his scent feel so delicious I don’t want to pull away, but I need to get this out before I let myself hope he accepts me. I lay back against the headboard and he begrudgingly lets me go but takes my hand in his as I begin to speak. We did not just come here for a visit, and I fear that we will bring danger to your pack which was not my intent. You are my second chance mate.
He stiffens when I say those words. “You were rejected by some prick?” Not exactly but it is definitely complicated. I was mated to the Alpha of the Crimson pack Alpha Chase Nelson. We were mated for two years, and he really was a wonderful mate during that time. I hear him again growl and I rub circles on the back of his hands. Before I start to speak again, I see Xander is getting a mind link. After a few minutes he smiles at me. “Do you think you feel up to heading to my brother’s office if not I will have him come here so he can hear everything since it will affect the pack?” I am feeling a little better if you could just step out, I realize I am wearing pajamas and for some reason I feel shy. He smiles but doesn’t oppose my request. I get up and eat a few saltines I have next to my bed and sip some ginger ale. I open the door and he is waiting. He takes my hand, and we head toward the living room. Sarah pops up “what’s going on, where are you going?” Xander explains and she offers to come with us, but I tell her I will be fine. We head out the door and toward the pack house.
