My Dirty Affair Novel – “Did you sleep with her?” I never thought my husband would cheat on me with my best friend. He didn’t answer so I punched him in the chest. “Did you bang her before I got here?” I already knew the answer to that because Kaya was in bed undressed with the sheets barely covering her goods. “Melinda, please let me explain.” “No!” I fought his hold on my wrist. “Don’t touch me!” “Melinda, listen to me. I love you. I wouldn’t hurt you.” “You’re going to stay away from me!” “You should probably listen to her.” Kaya said from the bed. She hadn’t made a move since I busted them and she looked comfortable. I started to say something to her, but all that came up was a cry. Ellis looked at me sympathetically. “Baby, please believe me. I didn’t mean to—” “The damage is already done. I will file for divorce.” I said and turned away.
“Kaya, what’re you doing here?” She was standing in the middle of the room with Ellis in front of her, shirtless. If that didn’t look anymore suspicious then I didn’t know what was. They quickly jumped apart too when I walked through the door as if they were or about to engage in an act that wasn’t appropriate for one another given Ellis’ status as a married man. “Now is the time someone tells me what’s going on before I completely freak out!” I didn’t know how to react. Technically I hadn’t caught them doing anything other than stand in front of each other. It doesn’t escape the fact that they were in a bedroom—my bedroom. “Yo, what’s with all the—whoa.” Emily stopped in her tracks at the door. “Did you two bang?” “Emily.” I snapped. “Sorry, that was blunt of me.” She said. Then she turned to Kaya. “Bimbo move if you were doing something with him.” “No, it’s not what it looks like.” My old high school friend and whom I thought had been a good friend of mine explained, but I wasn’t having it. “Mel, let me explain.” “Please, do tell. I didn’t know we were having another guest for breakfast.” I glared at Kaya with disdain. “She had just walked through the door before you showed up.
She was looking for you and I told her you’d be here soon. I let her come in and wait.” “How did she get in our bedroom?” “That’s the real question.” Emily added. “I don’t know how to explain that, no.” Ellis admitted. I looked at him, trying to find some answers in his eyes, but he wouldn’t meet my gaze. Then I looked to Kaya. She, too, kept her head bowed. “So, that’s all you have to say.” “Mel,” Ellis slipped on his shirt, finally. “I wasn’t sleeping with her, if that’s what you were thinking.” “Then why does it look like you were? I can’t understand.” I calmed down before I started to freak out. I mean, it wasn’t that bad. They were only standing in front of each other and they weren’t pecking or anything so I couldn’t punish both of them. Kaya could’ve called me before showing up, though. I started to ask why, but I didn’t want a stupid response. “You know what, just leave, Kaya. We can talk later.” Without speaking, she quietly left the room.
When I heard the front door close, I turned to Ellis. “Oh, you’re about to get it now.” Emily said from the bedroom door. I’d forgotten she was still there and when I looked at her she a piece of bacon hanging from her mouth. “What?” “I can take care of this, thank you.” I turned back to my husband. “I’m not going to yell, I’m not mad. I can’t prove that you two were fooling around. I just don’t know what to think at the moment. When we finish breakfast, I’m going to hang out with Emily and see you later.” “Hey, I wasn’t trying to hurt you—” “I know. Right now, I’m too hungry to have a conversation like this.” I turned around, done with the whole situation. No, Ellis wasn’t sleeping around. He wouldn’t do that to me.
“Alex, where is he?” One of his best friends I actually tolerate would know where he was. My gripped tightened on my phone as I tried not to throw it across the room. “Is he there with you?” “No.” “Don’t lie to me.” I growled. “If he’s there tell me now. I’m worried about him.” “He’s fine. I can tell you that.” “Why can’t you tell me where he is?” “Guy code, Mel.” He said as if that were the answer to every major question in the universe. “Guy code? I’ll tell Stephanie about Vegas two summers ago.” I heard him gasp on the phone. “You wouldn’t! How did you know?” “Ellis talks a lot when he’s drunk.” “Fine.” He sighed. ” He’s at the Hilton Hotel across town.” “What?” Why would he be across town? “Is he by himself?” “That’s all I can say. He’s on the second floor, room two hundred and thirty. I got to go.” He hung up before I could say anything else. I didn’t know why Ellis was at a hotel across town, but I was going to find out.
Ellis’ car was still parked which means someone picked him up. “Excuse me. I accidentally left my key in my room and it’s been a long night. I’m too tired to go to the front desk. Could you open the door for me?” She was quiet and I was certain she didn’t buy the lie, but then she went back to the cart and took the key card and swiped it in the latch. The tiny light turned green and a clicking noise and the door was unlocked. “Thank you so much.” She smiled and walked away. I slipped into the room as quiet as a mouse and closed the door behind me without so much as making a sound. I didn’t call out his name, because that would’ve given me away too easily. There was a living room connected to a kitchen and a hallway. There were two doors and one of them was open and it turned out to be the bathroom. Which only left one more. I approached it slowly and pressed my ear to the door to see if someone was on the other side. “I can’t do this anymore.”
A muffled voice said on the other side. I replayed the voice in my mind and noticed it as Ellis, but he was talking to someone. “You can’t say that after what we just did.” Said the other voice and I immediately identified it as Kaya’s. “The damage is already done.” “You’re right. I’m married.” “Are we really having this discussion again?” Again? Which means there were more occurrences than one. I slapped my hand to my mouth to keep the sound of my cry quiet. “Yes, I love her.” If he loved me then he would’ve stayed away from her. Could she been who he was seeing all those times he disappeared and showed up at home with gifts? “You wouldn’t even know her if it wasn’t for me.” Kaya argued. “How else was I supposed to get you to get over me?” I didn’t even know Kaya and Ellis had a thing before I married him. “She’s way better than you.” “Then why did you keep coming back? You were all over me at the wedding.” I felt bile rise in my throat.
They fooled around on our wedding day? I swiped angrily at the tears falling from my eyes. I couldn’t stop them. Why was I torturing myself by listening to anymore of this? I knew if I asked for the truth, I wouldn’t get it. “If I remember correctly, you were on your knees.” “And you didn’t stop me. You’re sleazy, Ellis. Just like old times. I don’t even know why you married her.” “Me either, she’s too good for me. But I married her anyway and so far I’ve done a bad job with being a faithful husband. I have to go. Where’s my phone?” “It wouldn’t stop buzzing a while ago so I cut it off.” “What, Kaya?” I heard movements and decided I needed to go, but I couldn’t move. I was frozen. “You and I are done, Kaya. I’m leaving. Don’t call me and don’t call Melinda ever again.” Kaya snorted. “Whatever.” I didn’t even try to move when the door swung open and Ellis’ eyes bulged out of its sockets. “Melinda, how long have you—where’d you—how?” I shook my head. “No.” He caught my wrist when I turned to leave. “Melinda, please let me explain.” “No!” I fought his hold on my wrist.
“Don’t touch me!” “Melinda, listen to me. I love you. I wouldn’t hurt you.” “Did you sleep with her?” He didn’t answer so I punched him in the chest. “Did you bang her before I got here?” I already knew the answer to that because Kaya was in bed undressed with the sheets barely covering her goods. “You’re going to stay away from me.” “No, I need you to let me fix this.” “The damage is already done.” I said and turned away. “Melinda.” He made a grab at me again, but this time I turned with my fist ready to strike. He anticipated this and caught my fist before it connected. “Don’t. Touch. Me.” I hissed. “You should probably listen to her.” Kaya said from the bed. She hadn’t made a move since I busted them and she looked comfortable. I started to say something to her, but all that came up was a cry. Ellis looked at me sympathetically. “Baby, please believe me. I didn’t mean to—” I yanked my arm from his grip, catching him off guard, and ran.
