Playboy Mate is Best Friends Brother Novel – I opened the bathroom door and just as I looked inside, I noticed all the steam billowing out, which I thought was really odd. When I looked up I saw Blaze was just getting out of the shower and he waas reaching for a towel when he saw me standing there I froze where I was and so did Blaze, but just for a moment. He turned hisfull gaze on me and smirked at me, seeing the embarrassment on my face. “See something you like?” He asked.
GENESIS POV As I pulled up to my best friend’s house one afternoon after school I reached across and grabbed my bag which had all my school books in it and a change of clothes, since these things always ended up turning into a sleep over. As I walked up their long footpath to the front door, I raised my hand to knock on the door when it suddenly opened before I had a chance. Standing in front of me was a guy wearing a black singlet and jeans showing off the tattoos that covered both of his arms and disappeared under his shirt. He was a good 6 foot 5 now and his black hair was tousled to make it look good instead of messy. Who’s this guy? Sophie’s new date? “Hi, I am here to see Sophie.” He turned sideways and yelled at the house “You got a visitor, Sophie.” Then he turned back to look at me with a smirk on his face and his eyes staring at me.
I felt a little uncomfortable being stared at by him like this, so I reached out my hand, trying to break this embarrassing silence. “Hi I am Sophie’s friend, you must be her new boyfriend, nice to meet you.” He bursted out a hysterical laugh hearing my words, he must have laughed for five minutes because he laughed so hard his face was all red. “Blaze. Would you get out of the way and leave her alone?” Sophie yelled from behind him and pushed him aside. He glanced over his shoulder and then looked back at me and winked before he walked past me and down the stairs to leave the house. “Sorry, Genesis. It’s my brother Blaze. He’s been so annoying since he got home.” Sophie said, closing the door as I walked inside. I was shocked when I heard the name Blaze.
I used to have a huge crush on him before he went away. Blaze had left the pack to live with relatives 5 years ago when I was 12 and he was 14 because of behavioral issues. I wasn’t too sure what he was really doing, but I knew that he was hard to control. But everyone tried to shield myself and his sister from what he was doing. He had definitely changed from the scrawny guy I used to know, and have a little crush on, to the guy that he is today. The muscles bulging and all of those tattoos. I really started wondering where his parents had sent him. “Why didn’t you tell me that he was back?” I asked. “Because I didn’t think it mattered. He’s been gone for five years. Don’t tell me that you still have a crush on him.” Sophie said. “No. Of course not.” I said, quickly looking away and I turned to walk up the stairs. “Oh my god. You’ve gotta be kidding me.” She said, following me.
“Can we please just get started on this assignment?” I asked. “Fine. I’m leaving the beginning up to you because I don’t even know what we are meant to be doing.” She said. We pulled out our books and I leaned up against her bed on the floor while I pulled out a notepad and a pen while looking through the textbook. I was staring at the textbook, trying to read it when my mind started wandering to Blaze standing at the door. Staring down at me. Giving me that wry little smile that made me want to melt. I really thought I had gotten over my crush, but obviously I hadn’t. It was back. And a lot worse than before. I just thought he was cute back then and a bad boy. But now, I can’t stop thinking about him. “Knock it off.” Sophie said, snapping me out of my day dream. “What?” I asked. “I know what you’re thinking, but don’t, don’t do this to yourself. You know exactly what he is like. A straight A student like you can’t tame him, you’ll just get your heart broken.” “What do you mean?” I asked.
Sophie looked at me and I lowered my head, yes I know exactly what she meant. Neither of us said anything and we went back to the assignment and when we looked up again at the wall it’s two hours later. Sophie stretched her back and gave me a mysterious smile. Then she pulled out a couple cans of beer from under her bed. And she handed me one. “Here, try this.” I hesitated a bit because I’ve never tried it before, but curiosity got me and I opened it and took a sip. Spicy. I took another sip, and then another. Sophie opened hers and took a big gulp of it, she turned on her speakers and attached them to her phone and cranking the music really loudly.
I just looked at her at first with a goofy smile on my face and I must have got that blush on my cheeks because it’s burning hot, but she grabbed my hand and pulled me up and we started dancing around the room. Like we always ended up doing. “What about your parents?” I asked. “They’re out of town for a couple of days.” She said. “So, they aren’t going to yell at us tonight.” I said. “Nope. It’s just us.” She said. And I got on the bed and started jumping up and down and dancing at the same time. Having a great time, like we always did. I don’t know why our parents always needed to rain on our parade. We just wanted to have fun. Which is probably why Sophie was always getting us into trouble at school as well. Alright. It wasn’t always Sophie.
But they were never able to find evidence that I did anything. I had been dancing around the room for a while when I had to use the bathroom. So I walked out of Sophie’s room and down the hall a little bit and I opened the bathroom door to be met with a whole bunch of steam which I thought was really odd. When the steam cleared I saw Blaze just stepping out of the shower and reaching for a towel when he saw me standing there. I froze where I was and so did Blaze, but just for a moment. He turned his full gaze on me and smirked at me, seeing the embarrassment on my face. I had to get out of there but I felt like I was glued to the ground right now. As I stood frozen to the spot, I saw Blaze relax after the initial shock as he was reaching for the towel and he got a wry smile on his face.
“See something you like?” He asked. I felt the heat creeping into my cheeks and I quickly turned around and closed the door behind me and rushed back to Sophie’s room and closed the door. “Are you alright?” She asked. “Yeah. I’m fine.” I said, leaning against the door without moving. Trying to calm myself down, but I knew that I couldn’t fool her. She knew something was up, but there was no way I was going to tell her what just happened. I listened by the door for a couple of minutes while Sophie kept doing what she was doing and I was trying to listen for Blaze to come to the bedroom but the music was too loud. If he walked near the room, I didn’t hear him. But he didn’t try to open the door which I was relieved about. It took a little while for me to get my complete composure back and I tried to get back to doing what we were doing. I sat on the floor with the music still blasting and I was trying to concentrate on the assignment. But it was getting more and more difficult.
I had to do something to get my mind off of it, so I threw the book on the ground and started going through Sophie’s wardrobe. “What are you doing?” She asked. “Wanna go out?” I asked. “Seriously? You’re ditching the assignment to go out? Are you feeling alright?” She asked, feeling my forehead to see if I had a fever. “I feel fine. Do you want to go out?” I asked. “I always want to go out. Everyone is headed to the club tonight.” She said. “Of course they are. They go there every night.” I said. “Alright then. Let’s go out.” She said. So we got changed into whatever we could find and we did our hair and makeup, but nothing fancy and we headed to a local club in town called ‘Howling’ that everyone went to. They did serve alcohol but not to minors. But everyone in the pack was allowed in. They always had a live band playing there and it was the perfect distraction. At least this way, I could dance in the middle of a dance floor and try to forget about everything.
We saw some kids from school as soon as we got there and when we walked over to them they started sharing their huge plate of fries with us and Cooper went to get us drinks. We sat at the table talking to everyone for a while when a really good song started playing so Sophie grabbed me and Hallie and dragged us onto the dance floor. It was great being here. Forgetting all of our troubles and just having fun with our friends. “He’s totally looking at you.” Sophie said, leaning towards me. “What?” I asked. “Cooper.” She said. And I looked over to see Cooper watching us while we danced. “No. He’s just watching all of us.” I said, not believing that he was looking at me. “When are you finally going to realize that you are a knock out?” She asked. “Never. Because I’m not. Just drop it.” I said. “Alright then. You’re the one that’s missing out.” She said, teasing me.
“I think you should grab him by the balls and drag him outside and do him there.” Hallie said. “Oh my goddess. You two are humiliating.” I said, walking off the dancefloor and I went to sit back at the table. “Are you alright?” Cooper asked. “Yeah. It’s just Sophie and Hallie being well, Sophie and Hallie.” I said. “Enough said.” He said, moving the plate on fries closer to me so I could reach them as well. He knew that those two were a couple of stirrers and were always caring about something. I was sitting there with Cooper, chatting about nothing in particular when someone grabbed me by the arm and pulled me off the chair. I quickly turned around and saw a warrior standing there, staring at me like he was really pissed. “What is your problem?” I yelled at him. “Does mom and dad know that you’re here?” He asked. “Zane, we’re just taking a study break. That’s it. We’ll be going back to Sophie’s in a minute.” I said. “How about you head back there now?” He strongly suggested.
“She’s out there dancing. She’s having fun. When she comes back then I will tell her.” I said. But he wasn’t satisfied with that answer. So he walked out to the dancefloor and dragged Sophie over to me. “You two, head home now.” Zane ordered. “Your brother is such a piece of poop.” Sophie said. “I know. He’s a total trash.” I said. “Come on. Let’s go before he dobs us into the Alpha.” She said, grabbing her bag. We said goodbye to everyone and we headed back to Sophie’s house. She was still going off about my brother when we walked in the house and just as I stepped inside, I looked up and saw Blaze walking down the stairs. The second he saw me he started smirking, but I just put my head down and squeezed past him up the stairs to Sophie’s room. Luckily she was ahead of me so she didn’t notice anything and we went back inside her room.
We had to get this assignment done so we were up for a few more hours to finish it. Sophie had a large queen size bed, so we always slept in the same bed whenever I slept over and I was so used to sleeping over here that it was usually pretty easy for me to go to sleep. But tonight, that was a whole different story. Sophie fell asleep almost straight away since it was past midnight, but I just kept tossing and turning. I eventually got up and I crept downstairs to the kitchen to get a drink, but I stopped in the doorway to see Blaze in the fridge wearing only a pair of shorts. The light was shining on his perfectly chiseled body, showing off the tattoos on his chest and his back now. He slowly turned and saw me standing there and he closed the fridge as a smirk crept across his face. “Come back for more huh?” He asked. “I just wanted a drink. But it can wait.”
I said, trying to turn around when Blaze suddenly grabbed my arm and pushed me up against the wall of the kitchen that was next to the fridge. “What are you doing?” I asked, my breathing getting heavy and my heart was practically pumping out of my chest. “Why do you pretend to hate me?” He asked, stroking the side of my face with his hand. “Because I do.” I said, trying to look away. But he forced me to look back at him. To look straight into his eyes. “Your body doesn’t think so.” He said. “Well, what does it know?” I asked as my breath hitched again. And he smirked at me. “You can’t keep avoiding me.” He said. “I can try.” I said. “One day, you’re not going to run away from me. You’re going to be running to me. My little mate.” He smirked. And my stomach instantly dropped and my heart started pounding even harder. ‘What the freak did he just say?’ I couldn’t remember how I went back to the bedroom, I laid down and my heart was pounding like crazy and deafening in my chest, and I kept replaying what just happened in my head until the alcohol took place and I finally fell asleep.
The following morning when I woke up, I got up when Sophie did and I started thinking about what happened in the kitchen. It must have been a dream. There’s no way that really happened to me. Not to me. Nothing like that ever happens to me. I got up out of bed and I went to have a shower first, but as soon as I went in I was sure to lock the door and I had the quickest shower of my life before I dried off and got dressed. I went back to Sophie’s room and she was still stumbling out of bed. “Do you want me to make you a coffee?” I asked. “Yeah. Thanks.” She said. So I walked downstairs to the kitchen and the whole house seemed dead quiet. Nothing was stirring. It really was her parents that used to make all the noise in the morning. I started the coffee machine and got two cups out and started getting the milk and sugar and everything that I needed for it.
I heard footsteps and I turned around and saw Blaze walking down the stairs with messy hair, he rubbed his eyes and yawned while walking, he poured a glass of water, raised his head and drank it all by the sink, the sunray casting on him from the window and I can see the silhouette of his adam’s apple, it’s going up and down while he’s drinking, I swallowed hard until I realized he saw me. “ Morning.” He greeted casually, put down the glass and was ready to leave. Wait, what? That’s it? Just like that? What about last night? Did it really happen? “Blaze…” I stopped him. He turned around with a confused look on his face, waiting for me to continue. “How was your night?” I asked tentatively. “Good.” After a short answer, he turned around and left. I was stunned. Why is he acting like this? “Hey Gen, is that coffee ready yet?” Sophie sang out, her voice getting closer to the kitchen. She bumped into Blaze on his way back. “Oh, it’s you. What are you doing up so early?” “Yeah. They’re ready.” I said with a shaky voice. “Always a ray of sunshine in the morning.” Blaze said to her. “Curse you. I thought you were out slutting yourself around all night. You should be pretty exhausted. Or are you just getting home?” She asked, walking over and taking the coffee from me. “I actually wasn’t slutting myself around. I went to see some friends and then I came home.”
Blaze said. Sophie looked at him for a moment and then started laughing. “Yeah right.” She said, sitting at the table. But he just rolled his eyes at her. “Why are you two up so early on a Saturday?” Blaze asked. “You’ve been gone too long. Mandatory training.” Sophie said. “Really? I thought they were just doing that to me.” He said. “No. Everyone has to train. Everyone has to know how to defend themselves. The Alpha insists. Just in case we ever get attacked or we get attacked outside of the pack.” Sophie explained as I sat down as well. “Well, I guess that’s a good rule to have. Everyone should know how to defend themselves.” Blaze said. I kept looking down at my coffee while those two talked back and forth and gave each other a hard time.
I knew that they were always giving each other a hard time and they pretended to hate each other but I also remember that Sophie was really upset when he left the pack. I was too, but I couldn’t let her see that. She knew that I had a crush on him. But she didn’t know how bad it was. Obviously, he did. “Gen.” Sophie said. “Sorry, what.” I said, looking up. “Where were you just now?” She asked. “Daydreaming.” I said. “Well, we have to go.” She said. “Alright.” I said, standing up. We put our mugs in the sink and I grabbed my bag from next to the stairs and we left the house. We both got in my car and we headed to the training field that was behind the packhouse. It was reserved for our age group. As soon as we got there I took off my sweater to reveal a black and purple sports top and I already had on the matching tights and socks and sand shoes so it revealed my stomach which I never did except for when I was training.
We went over to the group of people that were waiting for training to start and we sat down and started doing our usual stretches. “We didn’t think you two were going to make it.” Cooper said, walking over to us. “Yeah. Someone isn’t a morning person.” I said, looking at Sophie. “I still want to go back to bed. It’s your fault. You came over on a Friday night to do an assignment and then we went out and then we didn’t get to bed until late.” Sophie said. “Don’t blame all of that on me. The assignment was my idea, but otherwise, you were planning on staying up eating junk food and watching movies.” I said. “Yeah. That’s what we’re doing tonight.” She said. And I looked up at her, a little panicked, but I got it under control really quickly. “I can’t sleep over tonight. Zane would have told my parents about last night and they aren’t going to be happy.” I said. “Why does your brother have to be such a buzzkill?” She asked. “Who knows? I think he was just born that way.” I said. “Alright warriors. On your feet.”
A man yelled behind us. So we all got on our feet and turned to look at our trainer. He was only 23 but he’d been a warrior since he was 18 and he was now training us. 6 foot 2, ash blonde hair and Sophie was totally in love with him. “I’m glad to see everyone showed up this morning. At least I won’t have to write anyone up.” Dallas said. “He can write me up any day.” Sophie whispered, but I just rolled my eyes and shook my head. “Alright. We have another trainer with us. He’s going to be learning the techniques of training students as well as also training to be a warrior himself. This is Blaze Underwood.” Dallas said. And I looked over to the side to see Blaze walking across the field heading straight for us. “What is this?” I asked myself. And as I looked over at Blaze again, his eyes were focused completely on me with a little smirk creeping up along his face. I looked over at Sophie and she looked just as shocked as me when she saw Blaze walking over. “What the frigg?” I mouthed to her.
“I don’t know.” She mouthed back. “Alright. You all might have recognised the last name. Blaze is Sophie’s older brother. He’s just returned to the pack and he’s training to be a warrior. But being a warrior also means training the younger pack members to fight as well. So, everyone pair off. Male to female. Same as always.” Dallas directed. I was about to go to Cooper, because we were usually paired up together when Blaze grabbed him by the shoulder. “Why don’t you find someone else for today?” Blaze asked. “Gen and I are always together.” Cooper said. “Not today.” Blaze snapped at Cooper and I whipped my head around to look at him. How dare he talk to Cooper like that? Cooper looked at me and with a sorry look on his face he had to go and find another partner. “Aren’t you meant to be learning how to train us? Not train with us?” I asked. “I can do two things at once.”
He said. “Since when?” I muttered, but when I looked back up I realized that he had heard me by the look on his face. So I quickly straightened up. “Blaze. Maybe you should start with someone else.” Dallas said. “No. I’m good here.” Blaze said, not taking his eyes off of me. “Alright. Don’t say that I didn’t warn you.” Dallas said. “What does that mean?” Blaze asked. And Dallas blew the whistle but before Blaze could react I grabbed him by the arm, swung my body around and threw him over my shoulder until he was on his back on the ground. “I think he meant because I am the best warrior in this class.” I said, softly. And he let out a really low moan as he was adjusting to the pain of being thrown on solid ground. Sophie walked over to me and leaned over her brother with a huge wicked smile on her face. “Gen isn’t the pushover that she used to be, is she?” Sophie asked.
But Blaze just moaned again as he slowly made his way to his feet. “Sorry.” I said, sheepishly. “Don’t apologize Genesis. We warned him and he was being cocky. He deserved it.” Dallas said. And I nodded my head at him. So Dallas blew the whistle again and Blaze lunged at me but I managed to duck under his arm and I turned around to face him as soon as I got behind him and I kicked him in the back of the leg and when he fell to his knees, I kicked him in the back so he would fall the rest of the way to the ground on his stomach. He rolled over and stared up at the sky before slowly getting up again. “Want a new partner yet?” Dallas asked. But Blaze shook his head no. He wasn’t going anywhere. He wanted to train with me but I couldn’t understand why. Was it just because he didn’t want me training with Cooper? Was it because he liked to be beaten up by a girl? Was it because he was trying to stake his claim over some misguided notion that he thinks I’m his mate? None of that made any sense. So I just let it go and got on with training. As soon as training was over Dallas and Blaze had to go off and do their own thing and I was sitting on the ground packing my stuff into my bag when Sophie walked over to me. “You have no idea how good it was to see you drop Blaze all morning.” She said laughing.
“I didn’t tell him to partner up with me.” I said. “I guess he still thinks of you as that shy little girl that wouldn’t really talk in a group of people.” She said. “Why did he want to be your partner? I got stuck with that thing over there.” Cooper said, pointing to his partner. A girl that looked like she was attending a fashion show, even while training. “I don’t know. I guess because I’m familiar.” I said. “He could have trained with his sister. Then he would have had an excuse to beat her self.” Cooper said. We stood up and we all headed to a diner to get something to eat before Cooper had to go home and Sophie and I headed back to my place. As soon as we got out of the car we could hear screaming coming from inside my house. It wasn’t a big house, but it wasn’t exactly a small house either. It was two stories but it looked pretty old and was really run down. “They’re at it again.” Sophie said. “I don’t think they ever really stop.” I said. So we walked up the stairs and in the front door that was open and I could tell that my parents were in the kitchen screaming at each other.
“What about Genesis? Did you ever stop to think about what this would do to her?” Dad yelled at my mother. “Of course I have. Why do you think I have stayed here so long? I would have been gone ages ago if it wasn’t for her.” Mom yelled back. “Well, if I’m holding you back then just go. Leave and don’t come back. But don’t think for one second you are taking Gen with you.” Dad yelled. “You can’t keep me from my daughter.” Mom yelled. “Wanna bet. She’s 17. She doesn’t have to go with you. She has friends here. Her school is here. Her life is here. You are not uprooting her because you want to be selfish.” Dad yelled. I’d heard a lot of fighting between my mom and dad over the years, but I had never ever heard one of them threatening to leave. Or them fighting over me. Something else was going on here. Something I had no idea about. ‘What are they talking about?’ Sophie mind linked me. ‘I have no idea. This is new to me.’ I answered. “She is my daughter. You can’t just keep her from me.” Mom yelled. “She was born into this pack. If you leave this pack, then you have no claim on her.
Talk to the Alpha if you don’t believe me.” Dad reminded her. Wow. Dad was threatening to bring the Alpha in to this. It must be pretty serious if he was doing that. Dad never mentioned the Alpha, especially not in fights. Because pack members only go to the Alpha for important issues and not ones that would waste his time. This had to be very serious. “You are one of a son of a woman, do you know that?” Mom screamed, storming out of the room. But once she did that, she saw Sophie and myself standing just outside the room listening to them and she stopped and stared at us. Her eyes went wide, knowing that I had heard too much. “What’s going on?” I asked. “I thought you were at training.” Mom said. And dad raced out of the room. “Hi sweetheart.” He said. “What have you done wrong?” I asked mom, looking really confused. And they looked at each other with real worried looks on their faces.
