The Devils Light Novel

The Devils Light Novel – Ever since I escaped from my abusive ex-boyfriend, I’ve made up my mind not to believe in love anymore. But I never thought I would fall in love with some dangerous MC biker, along with his sun-tanned skin and his super hot muscles. That day, on my way home, I found this tattooed giant, covered in blood. Out of a doctor’s instinct, I saved him, but I never expected that from then on, this man would be entangled with me. “I’ll give you some time, but don’t test my patience. I always get what I want, and this time, it’s you.” He lifted me up with his strong arms and pressed me against the wall, his deep blue eyes almost drowning me. My heart was racing, and I knew there was no escape, no avoiding him.

The end of my shift rolled around painfully slow, but I was finally out, heading to the bus stop that would take me to my small, single-bedroom apartment— the one I’d rented the day I arrived two weeks ago. I was lucky to have even found a vacant place. Living accommodations had been another detail I’d completely overlooked in my getaway plan. If I’m being honest, the only things I had planned were the job at the hospital and stashing away money in a shoebox in my closet for a year. Beyond that? Nothing. But it didn’t matter now. I got away, and that was all that counted. The bus ride home was just fifteen minutes, most of which I spent staring out the window toward the shore. The lighthouse on the rocky island stood stark against the inky night sky, its rhythmic bean of light sweeping across the dark expanse of the sea beyond.

The steady pulse was almost therapeutic after a brain-numbing twelve-hour shift. When my stop was called, I grabbed my bag, pressed the stop request button, and thanked the driver as I stepped out through the back doors of the bus once we came to a full stop. Just as I started to cross the street toward the concrete steps of my apartment building, I froze. A figure lay motionless in the middle of the road. At first glance, I thought it was an animal and I felt my nose burn as tears welled up in my eyes. Someone must have hit it and just driven away. I turned away, wiping at my cheeks, but guilt clawed at me. What if it was still alive? Or even if it wasn’t, what kind of person just leaves it there to be run over again? My stomach churned as I hesitated, before slowly making my way toward the figure. I sucked in a sharp breath when I stepped closer.

Under the dim, flickering street lamp above, the truth became horrifyingly clear. It wasn’t an animal. It was a man. A man covered in blood. “Oh no!” I ran to him, dropping to my knees to press two trembling fingers against his neck. Relief hit me when I felt a faint pulse, but it was short lived as I squinted to assess the damage done to him. Blood smeared his face, likely from the deep gash on his temple. His nose looked broken, and one arm lay at an unnatural angle. I winced when I opened his jacket. Six large cuts were carved into his torso, each one bleeding heavily. My stomach churned at the sight, but I forced myself to focus. “God Almighty,” I whispered shakily, the words tumbling out in a desperate prayer.

“Forgive me for wanting more. Punish me, but don’t let this man die because of my selfishness.” I ripped off my jacket, tearing the hem of my shirt to use as makeshift gauze strips and pressed them against his worst wounds. I cursed myself for still not owning a phone. I had the money now but couldn’t shake the fear that he’d somehow track me if I bought one. Searching the man’s pockets, my fingers brushed over a hard rectangular device, and I yanked it out. The relief I felt dissipated when the screen turned on. Passcode required. It was an old phone. One that didn’t have an emergency call option. Fantastic. I used both my hands to apply pressure to the deepest cut in the center of his chest and looked around the empty street. It was late. Way past midnight by now. Meaning most people had to be asleep. But I didn’t care.

This man needs immediate medical help and there was only so much I could do in the middle of a dark road with no equipment. I pressed harder, trying to staunch the blood flowing out of his wounds, and screamed into the night. “HELP!” My voice echoed, unanswered. I tried again. “Somebody, please, call 911!” The silence was deafening. Then, the shrill ringing of a phone broke it. I stared down at the cracked phone I’d thrown onto pavement before quickly lunging for it with bloodied hands, pressing the green answer button before the line could cut out. “Hello?” I panted into the receiver. A long silence followed before a deep, gravelly voice spoke. “Who is this?” “I need help.” I ignored his question.

“There is a man. I think you called his phone. I found him on the road covered in blood. He’s… in bad shape. Really bad. Like he needs a hospital now bad.” My voice began rising until I was practically yelling at the unknown man. I heard a string of loud curses from him before he began loudly yelling at someone in the background. “Wait there!” Then he hung up. I pulled the phone away from my ear, staring at it as if it had bitten me. He hadn’t even bothered to ask where we were. I turned my attention back to the injured man, resuming to apply pressure on his chest. My hands were shaking. Blood pooled beneath him, soaking the street, and I was barely holding back tears when the roar of an engine snapped my head back up. A large black van screeched to a halt beside us, then the side doors were thrown open before a swarm of men poured out.
