Viola Novel

Viola Novel – To escape the endless abuse from Leah and her boyfriend, I ended up in the middle of an intersection. The last thing I remember is a car screeching to a halt in front of me, then darkness. I regain consciousness as they’re wheeling me into the hospital. “She’s awake.” a nurse stared at me. “I’m Veronica. What’s your name, sweetie?” she asks hurriedly. “Vi-Viola Calvetti” Her eyes widen as she stops dead in her tracks, “my god. We find you.” Then, I am consumed by darkness yet again. When I woke up again, I look at the eyes that I haven’t seen in far too long but could never forget. “Enzo?” I squeak He looks down at me with tears in his eyes “Yes, neonata.” He hugs me tightly. My dad and other brothers were standing nearby, and I heard my dad say, “Princess, you’re finally home.” Yes, I was finally away from my terrible mother and back with my dad and brother.

Viola “You stupid bimbo,” Jack growls out. I try to shrink myself back but find myself cornered. “I told you to clean the house, and what did you do? You sat here and did nothing! YOU’RE USELESS” He shouts and stomps towards me. He starts kicking me over, and over, and over again. I don’t cry, I don’t scream, I don’t look to my mother for help. That wouldn’t do anything anyway. My “mother” if you could even call her that, sits there staring at me being beaten… laughing. Yes! You heard me right. Laughing. She stopped caring a long time ago. All I can hope is that one day I can escape this inferno and find my father and brothers. Leah made me move every 6 months since she kidnapped me, and before you ask, yes I remember my brothers and father and I know that my mother kidnapped me. I’ve been trying to escape her since I was 9, but that only led to more beatings. Most of my worst beatings were thanks to Jack, when he came along, the torture I was experiencing amplified tremendously. The number of times that he, along with Leah, has almost killed me is too many to count.

I’m brought back from my thoughts when I feel Jack stop kicking me. That’s not normal. Usually, a beating lasts much longer than that. I only realize what’s happening when I hear him unbuckling his belt. I sit up ignoring the pain and try to run. Leah grabs me and pushes me back down kicking me with her pointed heels for good measure. “You deserve it,” Leah says I look around frantically, trying to find an escape route. Struggling away from Leah’s hold I realize I’m trapped. That’s when I see it… The shards from the vodka bottle lay scattered next to me on the floor. As Jack walks up to me I stop struggling and form my plan. As soon as he gets close enough to touch me I flail around wildly, slashing away with the shard of glass in my hand. He screams in pain and backs away. I don’t even check to see what I’ve hit, I take my opportunity to elbow Leah and escape her grasp. As soon as I do I run for the door. Just as I touch the handle, I hear the sound of a gun going off. After the noise sounds, I feel liquid dripping down my leg. I look behind me to see Jack lying on the floor with the gun in hand. He had shot me in the thigh. But, I couldn’t stop. I flung the door open and ran out of the house.

The only time I got to leave the house was to go shopping for them and to go to work. You may be thinking why didn’t you try to escape, I did but they always had someone nearby who would almost beat me to death. I have had something up my sleeve recently but I can’t wait for that plan to be ready. I’ve let them beat me I will not let them take the last bit of dignity I have left. Without a clue of where I was going, I started running. I ended up in the middle of an intersection. The last thing I remember is a car screeching to a halt in front of me, then darkness. I regain consciousness as they’re wheeling me into the hospital. There is a doctor over my head yelling orders. A nurse looks down at me and notices I woke up. “She’s awake” the nurse chirps “I’m Veronica. What’s your name, sweetie?” she asks hurriedly As I lose consciousness I manage to whisper out “Vi-Viola Calvetti” Her eyes widen as she stops dead in her tracks then, I am consumed by darkness yet again. Alessandro It has been 13 years since my Principessa disappeared.

I’ve never stopped looking. My sons were destroyed when their little sister was taken. When we found out that Leah took her, Lorenzo and Antonio turned to stone. They were the closest to Vi. Finding out that his mom had abandoned him, Benedetto went quiet. Marco and Niccolo tried to keep us all together, but you could tell they are still in pain. We all struggled, she was the light of our lives. I’m knocked out of my thoughts as I walk into the kitchen where I am attacked into a hug by Lucas. He’s one of the only things that keeps me together anymore. I squat down to his level as he wraps his arms around my neck. “Hi daddy,” Lucas says as he stuffs his face into my neck. I know you’re probably thinking… I thought he had 5 sons. Well, Leah and I only had 5 sons, but after 8 years of searching for Viola I was in America following a lead and I met Lucas’ mom. She is the kindest woman I’ve ever met. She loves the boys, but of course, they have a tough time.

They thought I was replacing Viola when Lucas was born but that couldn’t be any further from the truth. I will never stop searching for her. I pick up Lucas and start to carry him to the couch when my phone starts ringing. With Lucas still on my hip, I grab my phone and realize it’s my wife calling me. Knowing she usually doesn’t call from work I answer quickly “Hey, baby,” I say. “Alessandro I-,” she pauses. “Baby, what’s wrong?” I ask, she doesn’t answer. “Veronica?” I speak. I’m about to check if she hung up when she says, “It’s Viola.” I freeze where I am. “Alessandro?” Veronica asks I can’t find words to answer her. “Alessandro!” She shouts This seems to wake me up because I quickly answer. “What do you mean?” I ask.

“Sandro a girl came in. She was running from somewhere, some people found her at an intersection and brought her here. When she was going in she woke up and when I asked what her name was she said ‘Viola Calvetti’. I took another look it’s her I swear Sandro!” I was quiet for a moment “San-” she began to say “I will be there in 20 minutes don’t let her out of your sight” I rushed out before hanging up. “Was that mommy?” Lucas asked. In my shocked state, all I could do was nod. “Are you okay papa?” He asked as he gripped my cheeks. I took a deep breath before scooping him up excitedly and spinning him around in a circle “We have to go gather your brothers,” I said and ran towards the stairs. “Boys!” I yelled as I reached the stairs They ran down guns in hand, expecting danger from my tone. “What’s going on,” Lorenzo asked “We need to go to the hospital immediately.” “Is everything okay?” Marco asked I hesitated before saying, “…It’s Viola” Then all of us rushed into the car.

Viola As my breathing calms down I blink away the dots that had begun to block my eyes and when my vision is finally clear I pry the body that is attached to me out of the hug. As soon as I look up into his eyes, I know exactly who it is. …Enzo. I let out a sob as I look at the eyes that I haven’t seen in far too long but could never forget. He holds me tightly as I cry into his chest. It feels like hours pass before my sobs slow and I can look up at my eldest brother. “Enzo?” I squeak He looks down at me with tears in his eyes “Yes, neonata?” “Please tell me this isn’t a dream. Are you really here?” He chuckles letting a few tears fall “Not a dream, I’m right here, I’m not going anywhere, neither are you, Bambina.”

(Baby) he said as he caressed my cheek softly, wiping my tears away. I reached up and wiped his away as well. I suddenly realized “Where is everyone else? Are they here? Is papa-?” “Shh, sh calm down neonata. They’re all here baby, they were sleeping. I heard the alarm and came running. I didn’t want to wake them in case it was someone else.” He said calmly. I nodded my head. He looked me up and down before tearing up again. “You got so big sorellina, we missed you so much,” (Little sister) he said tearfully “Hey, I’m here now.  No more missing me, I’m right here.” I soothed him as I wiped his tears. After a few minutes, we fell into a comfortable silence. I looked around the room and thought for a moment and then without warning, I tackled him into a hug. He chuckled but hugged me back, squeezing me as if I’d disappear at any moment. “You should get some rest.” He whispered “Can you stay?” I whispered back. “If that’s what you want Bambina, of course.” He picked me up bridal style and got on the bed, scooching me over and cuddling into me. I cuddled back into him and closed my eyes.

I woke up to a camera snapping. I looked up to see veronica taking a picture. I was confused until I remembered that I was cuddling with Enzo. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you, he just never looks this relaxed. I wanted to get proof that it happened” she whispered, snickering. My brows furrowed in confusion “You know Enzo?” I whispered She stopped for a moment, hesitating, before saying “Um, I should go get your father and brothers up. This will be a good surprise for them” With that, she ran out the door. — A minute later, the doors slammed open and I flinched violently at the sudden noise. Lorenzo grabbed my hand to calm me. I opened my eyes to see the one person I had missed the most… My papa. I meet Papa’s eyes just as he runs to me and engulfs me in a hug. He allowed me to sob into his chest as he let his own tears fall heavily, constantly petting my hair and smooching my head, holding onto me for dear life.

After some time I heard a familiar voice. Lightening the mood but still carrying heavy emotion it interjects “Hey, my turn you’re hogging my sorellina,”  the voice says. “She’s my child which means I get her for as long as I want. Go away,” Papa replies I look behind papa after a moment feeling my heart jump at the view of my second oldest brother “Marco!” I shout, a new mixture of happy and sad tears welling in my eyes as I reach for him from the bed. Papa chuckled and released me allowing Marco to immediately crush me into a hug. I breathe in his scent. He has always smelled like vanilla. The familiarity gently calms me as I collapse onto his chest. After hugging my brothers one by one, I noticed there was a little boy next to Veronica. When our eyes met, he looked up and asked, “Mommy, who is she?”
