My design work “must haves” usually include a combination of textures and finishes and always start with a floor plan. There are recent design trends that have an organic look and feel that I admire. It incorporates light wood tones, such as oak or maple, as the main feature combined with black accents. Choosing my favorite room in my own home is a difficult task – I love them all and each has a different purpose. However, since I have to choose, the answer is my family room. It has vaulted ceilings and large windows overlooking the tropical garden and water views. The sunlight in the room is beautiful all day and is most dramatic at sunset. The furniture is in shades of gray leather, rich wood and fluffy neutral area rugs. There are also accents in rich walnut wood. Right now, my favorite design magazine or blog is Boutique Design. That said, I always like it Interior Design Magazine, Architectural Digest and Abitare. As I have a commercial background, I love to read and see quality innovative designs from around the world. Inspiration from Interior Design Magazine What is the best thing about becoming an interior designer online? The best thing about being an interior designer is making my clients happy! I also like the diversity of this profession because every project is different and every client is unique. My first big project was the Presidential Suites at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Miami. It was very successful but challenging as we had to manage the various sleeping schedules of the guests. Some sleep at night, while others sleep during the day. My favorite part is seeing my vision come to life and receiving compliments from satisfied customers. The first part is accepting that every project is different and most will have challenges. After all, it is the nature of business. My approach is to focus on clear communication – whether verbal, written or sketched – to explain issues and solutions.
