The Rogue King’s Daughter Novel – CARLA. My heart pounded hard against my ribcage, not from excitement but… Fear. “Are we really taking Giovanni’s daughter with us?” “That’s too risky. We are already far out. Let’s leave her here.” “Yes, Alpha, she will make it easier for him to find us.” I frowned deeply, looking at the man who was supposed to be my fiance. What did they just call him? Alpha? Since when did he become an Alpha? Darius turned to look at me, a look of conflict on his face and I scoffed internally.
He used me, what was with that look? “Exactly why we still need her. In case he finds us, we can use his daughter as a hostage to escape again,” he said coldly and my heart sank. I was hoping he would choose to let me go. Darius Wright was my fiance and my father, the rogue king’s beta. He was six years older than me but we still got along well, or so I thought. Who knew he would start a rebellion and steal from my father? Not only did he steal a lot of cash, he kidnapped me too and threatened my father that he would kill me if he tried anything funny. Imagine, the man I thought would be my mate forever, held a poisoned dagger to my throat and dragged me out of my father’s house. The betrayal hit me hard.
I thought he loved me despite us not being fated mates. I clutched the dagger I had swiped from Darius’ pocket earlier tightly. This is the only way I’ll escape. I can’t let him take me as a hostage. Darius glanced at me, his eyes with a mocking glint. “Try to keep up, princess. No one is gonna pamper you here,” he said, walking ahead on the dusty road that led to the human territory. I hated him for what he had done… I didn’t know how many times he had slapped me ever since we left. But this was an opportunity for me to escape.
I got closer to him and when he least expected it, I placed the sharp tip of the poisoned dagger to his throat. “Any slight move and I’ll slit your throat,” I warned. “Tell your men to leave us.” Silence fell and Darius’ men looked at us in horror. They probably didn’t expect a spoilt brat like me to make this move. “Princess, what are you doing?” Darius asked. “Put that down… you can’t even use it- argh!” I put pressure on the knife and drew blood. It had been doused with wolfsbane, a poison that stopped a werewolf’s healing and eventually killed them if they weren’t lucky.
“Careful, you don’t want to die and leave your precious money,” I said in a cold voice. I may have been pampered by my father my whole life, but that didn’t mean I would allow these bastards to order me around and use me to blackmail my father. Darius was already bleeding, so he quickly asked his friends to leave us alone. I watched as they disappeared into the forest. At least if they weren’t together, I could buy myself time to escape. However, Darius suddenly moved, trying to tackle me down.
I stepped back and then he lunged at me, grabbing my wrist as we wrestled for the knife. “Give me that you stupid brat!” He growled. I don’t know where my strength came from, but my grip on the knife was ironclad. In our struggle, I heard a stabbing sound and my stomach sank to my feet. Darius stepped back, clutching his heavily bleeding wound and my eyes widened into saucers. I had stabbed him in the heart with a poisoned dagger. He looked at me with wide eyes, his face draining of colour, “You–” I shook my head, my heart thundering so violently it was painful. “I… I didn’t mean to. It was an accident!” I cried out, my hand that was now stained with blood trembled and I dropped the dagger like it was hot coal.
My worst nightmare happened. Darius groaned and spluttered out mouthfuls of blood before dropping to the ground. There was so much blood… I could smell it and it made me sick… Oh goddess, what have I done? Darius continued to bleed out until the light from his eyes faded and his heart stopped. “D-Daruis?” I called out in a shaky voice. I just killed someone. I just took a life with my own hands… Suddenly, the blood began to spread around us and everything was painted in blood before Darius’ face flashed before my eyes. … I jolted upright from the bed, my body drenched in sweat and my hands fisting the sheets like my life depended on it.
My heart slammed against my ribcage violently as I took short, desperate breaths. For a moment, I thought I was back there in that forest on the day that I accidentally killed my Ex. Looking around, relief washed over me when I realised I was in my room. It was just a bad dream… more like a horrible memory that had shaken me to the core. My phone chimed and I picked it up before reading the message I had received. [Happy nineteenth birthday, Princess. Miss me?] My breath caught in my throat when I read the message. I felt my insides twist and turn, my heart racing erratically.
Could it be that he was alive? No… it’s not possible. I had killed him. I watched the life drain out of him. I heard his heart stop beating. There’s no way… Another messag
