When the Alpha Regretted Too Late

When the Alpha Regretted Too Late – The third time Kylen carried my pups into the East Wing and made them call Isabella their mother, the system finally gave me a way out. If I died by his hand, I could go back to my original world. So I stopped screaming like a madwoman. I stopped clutching his sleeve and begging him to give my children back. I only watched coldly as my two sons and one daughter gathered around Isabella and called her Mother. When my five-year-old eldest son, Ryan, copied Isabella’s tone and called me a “lowly human female,” I only lowered my head and said nothing. Even when the healer discovered I was pregnant again, I drank the wolfsbane soup myself. Since I was leaving anyway, why leave another unwanted pup in this world? But when Kylen heard the news, he stormed into the West Wing like a madman. …… His silver blade pressed against my throat.

His golden wolf eyes blazed with rage. The black wolf inside him roared beneath his skin, and his searing Alpha scent rolled through the room until the air in the entire West Wing trembled. The old mate mark on the back of my neck burned under that pressure, as if flames were crawling up my spine. “Elena, how dare you destroy my Alpha bloodline? Do you really think I won’t kill you?” I smiled bitterly and said nothing. Then I lifted my chin and drove my throat toward the sharp silver blade. The blade had barely touched my skin, its chill not even fully sinking in, before it clattered to the floor. Kylen’s hand was shaking. At seventeen, he had dared to cross the Alaskan snowfields alone and tear out a rebel wolf leader’s throat with his bare hands. Now, he couldn’t even hold a silver blade steady. “Elena, what the hell are you doing?” He shoved me away. I lost my balance and hit the floor.

The wound on my neck tore open, and blood ran down my collarbone. But I barely felt the pain. I only gave him a faint, bitter smile. “I’ve already given you the heirs you wanted. Another pup would only upset your Luna.” Kylen went still. Panic flashed through his eyes. Back when I cried and screamed, he never panicked. He was certain I loved him. Certain the mate bond would keep me chained to his side. But now, I had no resentment left. No hatred either. I looked at him as if he were a stranger. So this was what a dead heart felt like. The mate bond that should have tied us together had long rusted down to a single cold thread on my end. Kylen probably felt it too. For werewolves, nothing was sharper than the mate bond. My will to die bled through it to him, and his brows tightened.

After a moment of silence, he bent down, helped me up, and softened his voice. “I know it hurts that all three children were sent to the East Wing.” “But Isabella saved my life. Back then, if she hadn’t blocked that silver arrow for me, I wouldn’t be alive today, let alone sitting in the Alpha’s seat.” “That silver arrow damaged her wolf core. She can never carry pups again. I owe her that.” I had heard those words at least eighty times, if not a hundred. I lowered my gaze and said nothing. Kylen pulled me into his arms and ran one hand through my long hair. “She said two sons and one daughter still aren’t enough. It would be best to have one more little girl, so the Moon Goddess can witness a full line of heirs for the pack.” He paused and looked down at me. “Aside from Isabella, you’re the only woman at my side, and you’re my only fated mate.” “And in my heart, there’s only you.” “After you give birth to this child, we’ll have more pups in the future. You can raise them yourself.” A mocking smile tugged at my lips as I listened.

Every time his rut dragged his inner wolf to the surface, the name that spilled from his throat was Isabella’s. Afterward, he never even realized he had said her name. How could he lie so smoothly and still call it love? To be fair, Kylen and I once had good days. Back then, I had just arrived in this werewolf world with a mission from the system. He wasn’t the Alpha King yet. He was only a young black wolf, exiled and covered in wounds. I had blocked silver blades for him. I had helped him escape wolf hunters. I had stayed with him as he fought his way back from exile to Black Pine Wolf Castle. He once held my hand and said, “Elena, when I become the Alpha King, you’ll be my only Luna.” I believed him then. If he had kept his word, my mission would have succeeded. But later, to gain the support of the Silver Moon Pack, he married Isabella. I stepped aside from the Luna position myself. Later, I was forced to give up my pups too.

Isabella became the official Luna, yet again and again, she framed me. Kylen never asked for the truth. He only followed her lead and punished me. So when the system told me the mission had failed, I was heartbroken, but I also felt a strange sense of relief. If I couldn’t hold on to snow, then I might as well let it melt. As for Kylen, I was ready to let go. I lowered my head, picked up the silver blade from the floor, and handed it to him. “Kylen, I won’t bear another child for you.” “I disobeyed the Alpha’s order. Kill me.” He froze for a second, then snatched the blade from my hand, threw it aside, and pulled me back into his arms with helpless anger. “Enough. I won’t punish you for the wolfsbane soup.” “But don’t pull anything like this again.” He held my face and looked into my eyes. “When Ryan grows up and inherits the Black Pine Pack, the two of us will retire to a cabin by the northern lake. How does that sound?” Before I could answer, the butler’s voice came from outside the door. “My lord, the Luna has arrived.” Kylen’s hand froze on my waist. Isabella walked in holding the hand of my five-year-old eldest son, Ryan. She wore a silver-white gown. A moonstone necklace hung around her neck.

A graceful smile rested on her face. Her gaze landed on Kylen’s hand at my waist, and her smile faltered. I noticed Kylen’s expression turn slightly awkward. So I took the initiative to step aside, putting distance between us, and lowered my head obediently. “Don’t bother comforting me, Alpha. The pack recognizes you and your Luna, not me. Save that lake cabin for her.” As soon as I finished speaking, Ryan rushed over and kicked me hard in the shin. He already had the strength of a young wolf. The kick made my leg buckle. “This was all your fault, you lowly human female! You seduced Father and upset Mother!” Then he kicked me again. “Father, the elders said a pack falls apart without rules. You have to punish her.” I looked at the child in front of me, and it felt as if a cruel hand had closed around my heart. He was my first pup. When I first got pregnant with him, I had waited for him with my whole heart. I had even spent the points I had saved for a long time to exchange for a parenting handbook from the system. While he was still in my belly, I told him stories every day. When I gave birth to him, I suffered for a day and a night. I almost died in the delivery room. But before I could even look at him, Kylen carried him away and sent him to the East Wing. I cried for three days and three nights.

It ruined my health. From then on, whenever it rained, my lower back and abdomen ached terribly. It wasn’t until Ryan was two and came down with silver spot fever that I finally had a chance to see him. Isabella was afraid of catching it and avoided him at all costs. I cared for him myself. More than once, I collapsed from exhaustion. But he remembered none of it. Later, I gave birth to my second son, Noah, and then my daughter, Leah. They were all taken away. This eldest son, whom I had risked my life to bring into the world, had come with Kylen to steal Noah from me the day Noah was taken away. He was only three then. He had just learned to speak in full sentences, but his words were already like knives. He stood at the doorway, looking at me as I collapsed on my knees, and said coldly, “You’re only a wolfless human. How could you ever teach my brother properly? You don’t deserve to be his mother.” The little face in my memory overlapped with the slightly twisted face before me.

Ryan was still kicking me hard, calling me a lowly human female and blaming me for making his mother sad. Isabella stood at the side, her lips lifted, her eyes full of triumph. She reached out and stroked Ryan’s head. “Ryan looks more and more like a future Alpha. Kylen, you need to set an example for him.” Kylen was silent for a moment. Then he said, “Elena disobeyed the Alpha’s order. Drag her outside the main building and make her kneel. Without my order, she doesn’t get up.”
